SoftPerfect File Recovery: Restore Your Deleted Files

Have you ever accidentally deleted your files in harddisk or USB disk? Well, i ever faced that, and it made me panic. But then i found software to save my day.

This usefull software is SoftPerfect File Recovery. It's tiny (248kb), no need to install, and free. Not only support harddisk and USB disk, it also support recovery file from other flash memory like CF, SD, MMC, and so on.

During my test period, i could only recover recently deleted files. So don't expect to recover your old deleted files. It works best for image files like .jpg. But remember, it's not always done the job. When i recover .mpeg files and save it, it could not be played.

K550i@W610i: Stone Turns Into Gold

Hi, it's a good news for you all. Now you can crossflash K550i to W610i. It's no joke, so many sites has this discussion for example: se-nse.net (modding heaven!), esato.com, and for bahasa Indonesia you can go to forumponsel.com especially SE modding thread. You can also check youtube.com and write k550i@w610i as the keywords.

BACKGROUND
First question is, how can it be possible? Simple answer: they are twins! Both have the same hardware but different exterior. Remember also K750i-W800i. The history happen again with K550i-W610i. Since both are twins, we can crossflash the firmware.

WARNING!
Modding/crossflashing will void your warranty. You can brick/damage your phone. Do this at your own risk!

HOW TO DO?
You'll need these stuff first:
1. USBFlashDriver (it's not the same as your phone usb driver).

2. XS++ v2.2 or XS++ v3.1. Check your CID first with this. If you have CID 52 Red, go on this tutorial. If your CID is 51 Red, convert it with XS++ before flashing.

3. FS + MAIN W610i
If you live in asia-pacific, get the APAC version for FS. For example: W610_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_NA_RED52.zip and W610_R6BC002_FS_APAC_RED52.zip
If you live in europe, get the EMEA version for FS. For example: W610_R6BC002_MAIN_GENERIC_NA_RED52.zip and W610_R6BC002_FS_EMEA_RED52.zip

4. Custom pack
If u live in asia-pacific, download W610_CDA102568_202_R2A_GENERIC_APAC.zip. This is for phone language. In APAC you can get bahasa Indonesia, Tagalog, Malay, Vietnam, China, and of course English.

STEPS (sample pictures can be seen from http://blog.se-ven.net/masterbiji/2007/10/01/k61xw660/)
1. Remove battery then put it back (phone is off). Press C button and connect it to your data cable that's connected already to your usb motherboard/laptop port. Windows will detect new hardware. Search your USBFlashDriver directory. After that, remove your phone from data cable, remove battery and put it back.

2. Extract XS++ to your computer and make directory
In own_custpack, fill this with your custom pack.

3. Start XS++. Press Connect. You'll have 30 seconds to connect your phone with data cable. XS++ will try to recognize your phone like phone model, IMEI, CID, and Color. If your phone on after connect to XS++, maybe your USBFlashDriver is not installed correctly. Repeat step 1.

4. Watch your EROM CID + color. It must show CID52 Red. If not, upgrade first with XS++ otherwise XS++ and your computer will crash. Color is also important. If your phone is brown, forget this tutorial and live happily with your original K550i.

5. Click GDFS button

6. Back up your GDFS for your own safety

7. Remove the phone from data cable, remove battery and put it back. Don't turn it on. Connect again your phone to XS++

8. Click the box in front of Flash Main Firmware, Flash File System, and Customize File System. Click '...' button and find your MAIN and File System firmware. In Customize File System, choose Own custpack. CDA and Region is also \own_custpack

9. Click Flash. Wait until XS++ finish the job. It will says, "Disconnected... Unplug the phone". Remove your phone from XS++, remove battery and put it back. Now turn on your phone and yipee..! you have a W610i inside, K550i outside.

WHAT'S NEW?
Ho ho, now you have Walkman V.2, MegaBass, and Flash menu. Don't forget to spend your extra cash to buy larger memory stick and earphone HPM-70.

Because computer will not recognize your phone, you have to download W610i usbdriver from sonyericsson.com. Happy modding everyone!

SE K550i, the real successor of K750i?

After the wild success of SE K750i, SE introduces the new model SE K550i. What can you get in this Cyber-Shot phone? Lets take a look.

Physical
Well, the body built mainly by solid plastic. For my opinion, it looks cheap. The only obvious metal material is on the lens cover. Something that bother me is the skinny number keypad. I'm sure that it will bring some problems for typing sms. Thankfully it doesn't use joystick. Fastport is now on the left side, not at the bottom of the phone. I guess it will easily get dirty. Moreover, it doesn't support flash MXE-60. Take a look of K550i and the newcomer W610i. They basically have the same design like K750i and w800i.
K550i use a 950 mAh Li-Pol battery (BST-33). SE says it can has 7 hours talk time and 350 hours standby time, plus up to 25 hours of music playback.

Messaging
Now it has RSS reader. Emoticons icons have changed, much more attractive. SE makes messaging more fun. It is also possible to send email with 6-7 Mb attachment.

Phonebook
K550i gives you 1000 contact, twice than K750i capacity. The other thing that differ it from K750 is the ability to make a backup of phone contact to memory stick.

Entertainment
No significant change in MusicDJ and VideoDJ. But you'll get extra option in PhotoDJ like changing brightness manually or remove the red eye. If you can't get your computer, you can edit your bad photo with your phone. K550i also support TrackID.

Connectivity
The Bluetooth now support A2DP

Camera
It use the same 2 MP CMOS censor that you can find in it predecessor K750i. So you can expect a closer digital camera quality picture. Now you have an option to take a picture in 1 MP resolution (1280x960) but you will miss 160x120 resolution that is useful in MMS. In shooting mode, now it has Landscape mode.

File Manager
Camera album now have an option to edit in PhotoDJ. It also have a Timeline so you can track your photo date easily.

Video Player
Now it is possible to playback QVGA clips at 30 FPS. Video size has more option: original, auto fit, and fullscreen.

Music Player
It supports mp3, AAC, eAAC+, and WMA. The look of media player is like Walkman Player version 1.0. The most obvious set back is it has no MegaBass. Don't expect bass sound kicking your head.

Application
The most interesting thing is application called Photo Mate. It was created exclusively for K550i and explains how to shoot, apply frames and edit the photos in the phone. If you're new to digital photography, learn this first.

Conclusion
K550i surely brings extra features than it predecessor: enhancenment in PhotoDJ, Landscape mode, and more music format support. But if you also music lover, this phone is not created for those who demand great bass sound like house music or RnB. If you look for some new features and have no complain about music and the plastic-look design, K550i will satisfy you. If only K550i has Megabass, i would say that it is the real successor. Take a look also for W610i. This new model has MegaBass and Autofocus.
